Check the final approach
Walk from the nearest legal stopping place to each door. Note steep paths, steps, gates, cellar entrances, communal corridors and tight stair turns. Send photos of the street and entrance rather than relying on a postcode.
For village and Wye Valley addresses, mention narrow lanes, low branches, weak verges, width restrictions and anywhere a Luton van cannot turn. Agree an alternative loading point before moving day if direct access is doubtful.
Plan parking rather than hoping for it
Look for permit bays, time restrictions and loading bans at both addresses. Move your own vehicle before the booked arrival and ask neighbours about shared access. A long carry is repeated for every item, so it belongs in the estimate.
If a suspension or permit is required, follow the current local-authority process early. Hazard lights do not make an unsafe or restricted stopping place legal.
Allow for bridge routes and traffic
A Chepstow-to-Bristol or Newport move may be simple outside peak periods and slow when the M48, M4 or connecting roads are busy. Share the complete route when requesting a quote so driving and access are planned together.
Keep keys, entry codes and building contact details available. Delays caused by missing access information are avoidable even when traffic is not.
Choose the crew from the heavy items
A small ground-floor move may suit one person. Sofas, appliances, large wardrobes, steep steps and long carries often make two people safer and quicker. Mention pianos, safes, stone and large glass in advance.
Send both postcodes, floor levels, parking details, a full inventory and access photos. For a Chepstow move, call 01291 769 770 to talk through the job.
